First SPAM Email Sent: The email was sent to an extensive list of ARPANET addresses (the precursor to the modern Internet). Thuerk's intention was to promote DEC's new computer and operating system. Rather than sending individual emails or using conventional marketing methods, Thuerk sent a single mass email to a list of all the West Coast users of ARPANET, which was mainly used by government and educational institutions at the time. This first spam email marked the beginning of the practice of sending unsolicited bulk messages, leading to the development of both spam and anti-spam technologies. It's a milestone that reflects the challenges of balancing technological innovation with ethical uses of technology.
