Execution of Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc, also known as Jeanne d'Arc, was a young peasant girl who claimed to have received visions from saints instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War. Captured by the Burgundian faction, allied with the English, she was put on trial by an ecclesiastical court and executed for charges including heresy and dressing as a man. Her execution at the stake became a pivotal moment in history, dramatically impacting French morale and the course of the Hundred Years' War.
